We had our first tournament of the baseball season this weekend. The Missouri Bandits pulled out a 3rd place finishing after beginning the tournament with a huge loss (22-0) with our hopes of placing far away. We began the tourney on Friday night with a pool play. Of course, we were put up against a AAA/Major League team for our first game. Our boys made some silly errors and we just couldn't get anyone to score. The boys were down, the parents were down, and we assumed we were headed for a 3 game tournament.
We came back on Saturday for another pool play game at noon. We started out behind, but our batters started hitting and soon we were tied. Mr. Cole Thomas comes to the plate, bases loaded, tie game, bottom of the last inning. Just watching, you knew Cole wanted to hit it out of the park. With a couple foul tips, he had two strikes on him and bam, he hit a line drive by the second baseman, scoring the winning run! The team was pumped and we were seeded 6th for the actual tournament play.
Our next game was at 6:00 that same night. we were facing the #3 seeded team. The boys were raring to go and were up to bat first. We ended up scoring 4 runs in the first inning and the boys seemed to have their confidence boosted. When the home team came up to bat, we actually held them and they didn't score. Our boys were beginning to get cocky now. We ended up scoring 10 runs. We only allowed one run to score and that was due to a pitcher balk. Cole did great at the plate and had couple RBI's. He played third for the entire game (a new position for him) and did great, although he took a terrible hit to the side and has a nice bruise to show for it. Funny side story, when Cole got hit, he was on the ground crying, and all you could hear was Tom yelling, "Get the ball, get the ball". He was not worried about Cole being hurt, more worried about a kid scoring. This momma was not happy, her baby was on the ground and the coach was more worried about the ball. The kid didn't score and Tom finally went to check on Cole. Cole shook it off and finished the game. It was a great win and it meant we were guaranteed 4th.
We came back today for an 11:00 game. Unfortunately we were back up against the AAA/Major League team. Needless to say, we lost this game and ended up getting 3rd place in the tournament. Our boys played much better today and even had an awesome double play during the game. The final score was 8-0 but we were very happy to have improved and to have finished the tournament with a medal, trophy and third place. Way to go Bandits!
PS-Don't the uniforms look awesome! Thanks Keith M. Merrick Co. and thanks DAD!!!
